City Nature in Singapore

Fields of green, trees, flowers, gardens. These are such a rarity in the cityscape as these, more often than not are just seen on rural areas and not in highly urbanized places. Singapore, a country with a very small land area is a very urbanized area. In fact, skyscrapers and many other structures can be seen all around town. However, given the very toxic environment that the city has, Singapore has its mix of parks that you can visit to detoxify and calm your senses. Gardens by the Bay is just one of those green areas in Singapore. This nature park spans 101 hectares of reclaimed land near central Singapore.

Put up in 2005, this place is the perfect place for city dwellers who want to have a breath of fresh air, literally, and enjoy the greenery in this Garden City. More and more people are visiting the garden and recently, it achieved milestones including having its 20 millionth visitor by the end of 2015. The park has two “conservatories”, the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome.

Flower Dome

One of the two conservatories in Gardens by the Bay, it measures at 1.2 hectares and is lower than the two. This is a Guinness World Records holder as the world’s biggest glass greenhouse.  Maintaining a temperature range of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius, the Flower Dome is designed to replicate a mild, dry climate. It has seven different gardens where flower shows and displays are held. This is open to the public from 9 in the morning until 9 in the evening.

Cloud Forest

Second of the two conservatories, this is higher but a tad smaller than the Flower Dome at 0.8 hectares. This conservatory replicates climate conditions in tropical mountain regions. It has a 42 meter “Cloud Mountain” that can be accessed by visitors using an elevator. A 35-meter waterfall awaits visitors that helps bring in refreshing cool air. This is also open from 9 in the morning until 9 in the evening.
